Sheik “Crystaltones” Thompson

Sunday, April 12th, 2020

We are deeply saddened by the death, last week, of Jazz Legend Sheik “Crystaltones” Thompson – a beautiful, generous soul who gave SO much to the world. A talented saxophonist, flautist & lyricist known for playing with Courtney Pine, Branford Marsalis & Queen Latifah as well as leading his own amazing bands “Dedeh” and “Cue Ensemble” for which his talent & creativity shone immensely bright. His stage appearances included those with The Who, The Rolling Stones & Miles Davis to name a few…

He was a true inspiration & mentor to us in the early days of Tribazik’s formation but remained, and will for eternity, a great friend & unique character that brought life, passion, love & energy to everyone he met – and wow! …did he have some stories to tell!

We would like to share a song we had the privilege to collaborate with him on in 2004 (16 yrs ago), which he kindly offered to play flute & sax on- conjuring up craziness & playfulness – transforming it’s whole vibe (with the extra help of a sheep!). It’s a track called ‘Peach In Spediment’ and was Track 3 on our 1st recorded, untitled, & unreleased debut E.P. Enjoy!

Sheik “Chrystaltones” Thompson R.I.P. (1939-2020) We love you man. xxx
